This summer I had the pleasure working with The Creative hub at their amazing summer camp getting creative with all the children and families.
Over the 6weeks holidays children got stuck in bringing out their artistic side and produced some amazing art work and learnt how to make their own slime, t.shirts and designed tote bags. While having the time of their life.
Here are some of the projects we worked on over the summer.

We all have that one favourite t shirt that either doesn’t fit, has a stain or a little hole or two. Now is the time to give that old t.shirt a new lease of life we are going to transform and up cycle them to a tote bag which you can use.
Equipment: Tshirt, scissors, ruler ( Yes this is all you need)
Lay your t.shirt flat on a flat surface.
Cut off the bottom hem of the t. shirt, sleeves and cut out a squared shape at the the neck of the t.shirt. To make an even square fold t.shirt in half and cut out a rectangle shape, then unfold once cut. you should have cut yourself a even square.
Place your now cut t.shirt flat on a flat surface, get your ruler and measure 10 cm by 1.5 cm vertical strips from the bottom of the t.shirt.
Now take 1 tassel from the front and back side of your t shirt and knot together keep on until you have finished all the tassels.
There you have it your ready to use up cycled tote bag.
If you have another t shirt why not make one as a gift for a friend or family member
We started the term with both groups students basic cross stitching techniques.
Once students felt confident enough with this technique they designed a logo and cross sticthed their designs. Ks1 focused on designing patterns and shapes and Ks2 had to design a simple logo of their own choice.
Ks1 – Stitching patterns
Ks2 Logo design
As the students did so well with the stitching project we took it up another level. Students had to create a self portrait using the cross stitching techniques and a mixture of mixed materials. Once the portraits are completed they will be photographed and image will be used for a t. shirt print and the original will be decoration for a cushion (ks1) or a T. shirt tote bag. T.shirts and tote bags will be showcased in our end of term. More details will be available soon.
Ks1 – self portrait
Ks2 – stitch portrait
While students wait for their transfers to be processed they have started to make and decorate tote bags out of T. shirts (ks1) and cushions out of jumpers filled with fabric remnants (ks2).
KS2 will finish off their portrait stitch creation and add to their T-shirt tote bags and finish decorating.
Once again students have worked very hard and have picked up so many new skills this term which they will be using next term when they will be designing and upcyling fold items into new fun and exciting fashionable creations.
